Ingrown Toenails: Causes

Ingrown toenails most commonly occur on the big toe, for a range of reasons:

  • Cutting your toenails too short

  • Cutting the edges of your nails, rather than straight across

  • Wearing tight, pointy shoes that don’t fit you

  • Improper foot hygiene

Home remedies are often sufficient to address the problem, but if left untreated, more harmful infections can occur. If your home treatments are not working, we can help.

Ingrown Toenail Removal in Glasgow

Removing ingrown toenails is a delicate procedure requiring specialist training and experience. Our podiatrist will use local anaesthetic to numb the toe so that the nail can be removed without pain. How much of the nail must be removed depends on the severity of the case. Sometimes it may be necessary to remove the nail entirely, though this is uncommon.
